The Democratic-led The Dream Act passed the House of Representatives at the end of April. There are many problems with having to pass the Senate as well. Currently, the Dream Act submitted to Congress has a bill that provides certain immigrants who entered the United States before January 1, 2021 and grants temporary legal visas, and grants green card about five years later.

The Dream Act would permanently protect certain immigrants who came to the United States as children but are vulnerable to deportation. This fact sheet provides an overview of the most recent version of the Dream Act and similar legislative proposals.

The first version of the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act was introduced in 2001. In part because of the publicity around that bill, young undocumented immigrants have been referred to as “Dreamers.

The Dream Bill is, in fact, a sympathy vote for multiple people in the Republican Party, and maybe even possible, so it’s a strategy to split it up and pass it alone. There are a few Republican parliamentarians in favor of the Dream Bill, which rescues only young people who came to the United States when they were child, rather than a full parliament, but the fact is that even if they save 10 people and do filibuster, they will pass.
